I've reached the point of no return... I am going to ask the interwebz for help! So mommies (and daddies) who have experience or advice I am all ears, anything is better than nothing.
For the past three or four years my baby girl has been sleep walking. When this began we quickly figured out the cause, when she needed to use the restroom, she sleep walked (or whatever the past tense of sleep walk is). Once this was discovered precautions we taken. She no longer gets a drink after 7:30 and is always asked to use the restroom before going to bed as part of her bedtime ritual. We also installed a hotel latch lock on the door because she always headed outside.
This has worked for the past couple years with only very few night time trips around the house. In the last few months though it has returned with a vengeance. At first I thought we were becoming lax on the water/restroom but that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems that almost anything can get her to walk nocturnally. A few examples: getting a bloody nose, having an asthma attack, having too much homework, having a cold, allergies acting up, getting in trouble at school, her brother being mean, not getting to take her DS to Day Care etc. etc. etc.
It has gotten to the point that she is walking unconscious at least twice a week now. Since this has started we found door alarms that will sound off if she gets the exterior doors open but that doesn't protect her from what she could do/has done in the house. We've also started staying up at least 1-2 hours after she's already gone to bed. One night while "on watch" I saw her put a plastic grocery bag in her mouth?!?! How can we prevent that?!?! (Ok, we installed something on the pantry so she can no longer get into it without effort which keeps her out of it but still!)
So, as a stressed momma that has run out of ideas, any advice? Does anyone know how we can make these trips less frequent? Anything?
And, as always, thanks for listening. :)
